Grammy Awards 2012: Winners and Losers in Fashion

Personally, I can say that I did not get a chance to view the entire Grammy Awards yesterday and I am still a little tiffed about that, but that doesn't mean I can't speak on the Fashion Winners and Losers from yesterday evening where the 54th Annual Grammy Award Celebration took off in downtown Los Angeles at the Staples Center.  Check out the images below from one of the biggest nights in music and entertainment of the year:

Adele...the winner of the night

Charlie Wilson looks great from the neck down, but what is that on top of his head?  Someone please call the Fashion Police...STAT!

Esperanza Spaulding
Fergie looked sexy in orange lace.

Kate Beckinsale looked hip and chic in this cream draped mini dress.

Katy Perry looked matronly in the baby blue flowing gown, but I love the hair color.

Kelly Osbourne looked amazing..minus the too dark tan job.

Keri Underwood

Ledisi went for the sexy mermaid look with this metallic sequin number.

Mary Mary

Melanie Fiona's hair, makeup and accessories are all working for her!
Will somebody come and get this chick for once and for all.
Nicki Minaj *side eye*

Rihanna...FIERCE!

Alicia Keys and Rihanna are rocking the same heels., but with varying looks..HOT!
Taraji Henson, unfortunately, I am not feeling this look at all.

Taylor Swift looked great!

LL Cool J looked very dapper and definitely did his thing hosting the show right!
I usually have an issue with Lady Gaga's looks at these events but I think she looks very chic and couture!
Kelly Rowland....With what seems to be a reoccurring theme with her red carpet looks, I'm on the fence on this one.
Overall, from what I did get to see, there was a high level of energy, even with the recent news of the untimely death of Whitney Houston, just one day before the awards. RIP Whitney Houston. You will be missed!

Fashion Forward: The Many Looks Of Rihanna

As far as iconic celebrity fashion status goes there are two reigning divas: Gaga and Rih Rih.  Not only has the pop Bajan sensation better known as Rihanna blown up the charts since her emergence in 2005, but she has claimed the IT GIRL title in the music and fashion industry, always pushing the envelope and inspiring new trends.  Rihanna was named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire Magazine in 2011 and her hits continue to climb the charts, while her videos display fashion and artistic genius.  If she's not on the cover of top mags throughout the U.S., she's doing spreads in elite mags like Vogue, W and Harper's Bazaar abroad.

Rihanna's fashion sense is legendary, but her hair styles are even more dynamic.  After the Good Girl Turned Bad, she removed her long, highlighted and flowing extensions and downsized to a funky, choppy, black do.  Ever since her music and her artistry made that transition, she has been a force to reckon with in the game...period.  A bevy of beauties young and old follow her like its Twitter; she has 11.5 million followers by the way, with every color change, cut and style, her Navy, as she calls them, runs out to look just like her.

Rihanna's marketing and branding potential is endless with a slew of beauty contracts, product sponsorship, record sales and a world tour that grossed over $95 million last year.  Even the Dutch magazine that called her a "ni&#@ bitch" had to eat their words as Rihanna calmly responds, flipping the bird with a "f%* you".  Rihanna can't change her nail color, rock the new Louboutin's or get a new and unique tattoo without her fans running out to duplicate her look.

She is a rude gal, a murderer, so hard, yet so sweet and all she really wants is love.  But best believe whether you like her or love her, envy her or hate her, she is RUNNING THIS TOWN!

Check out a pictorial view of Rihanna's varying looks since her introduction to pop stardom in 2005:

J. Cole - Next To Blow?

Ever since I first heard this guy I was in love with his voice, style, delivery and mature subject matter.  I later discovered he was signed to Roc Nation, by head honcho Jay-Z, and this kid was the next to blow.  After hearing several mixtapes like The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights, as well as, tracks with featured artists like Drake and Big Sean, I knew it was only a matter of time before everyone knew his name.

The North Carolina native's first track released off his upcoming debut LP Cole World: The Sideline Story was Who Dat, which featured a school band drum line beat equipped with horns to create a new sound that I had never heard before.  J. Cole is known for ghost writing Diddy's Coming Home track off the Last Train To Paris and is also known for his appearance on Jay-Z's A Star Is Born from The Blueprint 3.

Cole has a degree from St. John's University, which he attended on an academic scholarship studying communication and minoring in business, graduating magna cum laude.  Cole explains that he only sought highter education as a path to get a record deal.  However, after years of no record deal, he obtained his degree and continued to pursue his dream to be a rap superstar.  After sitting outside of Jay-Z's offices for hours in an attempt to have him listen to his beat, he was ignored, but later called by an associate explaining Jay wanted to meet him after hearing his track Lights Please, from one of his mixtapes.  Lights Please is a cool and mellow track where Cole is speaking to a young lady whom he is fond of, but is perplexed by her preoccupation with sex, instead of getting to know him better or talking about things with more substance.  Check some of the lyrics:

So I tried to show her
About the world and about just who we really are
And where we've come and how we still have to go really far
Like baby look at how we live broke on the boulevard
But all she ever want me to do is unhook her bra
Then all I really want is for her to go down low
Before you know it she wet enough to get drowned slow
And all that deep shit I was previously down for
Replaced by freak shit I am currently down for

...

So now we in the hotel
Mirrors on the ceilin'
She say she wanna blow L's
I hear her and I'm willin'
But everytime I smoke well a nigga mind gone
So that every word I spoke well I'm tryin' to put her on
But she couldn't hear me
I told her all about how we been livin' a lie
And that they'd love to see us all go to prison or die
Like baby look at how they show us on the TV screen
But all she ever want me to do is unzip her jeans
Then all I really want is for her to get on top
Before you know it she workin' jerkin' it non stop
And all that next shit I was previously talkin'
Is now that wet shit that I'm currently lost in

...

I'm findin' the more I grow the more y'all stay the same
Don't even know the rules but yet y'all tryin' to play the game
And ain't it shameful how niggas blame hoes for givin' birth
To a baby that took two to make
Coward nigga you a fake
How gon' look in your sons face and turn your back
Then go start another family dog what type of shit is that?
She said it's okay
Rubbed my head and told me to relax
Laid a nigga down proper like she was recordin' tracks
Said I know you wanna change the world
But for the night please
Just reach over and hit the lights please

DEEP RIGHT?

J. Cole has been patiently waiting for his time to blow; Watching peers like Drake and Big Sean hit pay dirt with their debut albums.  I've been waiting on him to drop a track that would capture the ears of the diverse Hip Hop community and would showcase his talent and staying power.  I think he's finally done it with his new single and video Work Out.  But don't take my word for it, see for yourself.

Here is my fav! His video for Who Dat:

Here is his video for the song he did with Drake, In The Morning:

MORE PICS!

I'm excited to see what this newcomer has to bring to the Hip Hop table and hopes he can continue keeping things fresh and new as he has for the past 3+ years.  You all should definitely keep your eye on this guy.  I'm sure the album will be worth the wait.

Who's Ready For A Little S&M?!?!?

Rihanna has a song on the Loud album called "S&M".  For those who don't know what S&M stands for, it means Sadism and Masochism.  Sadism means you derive pleasure from inflicting pain or watching pain inflicted on others.  Masochism means you get pleasure from receiveing pain or being humiliated.  Now don't get your panties in a bunch just yet.  These sexual acts aren't as weird or as degrading as you might think...depending on how far you might want to take things.  However, this kind of sexual activity is not for the faint of heart.

Rihanna's song and video S&M touches on this sexual phenomenon that I am sure we have all been exposed to one way or another in our lifetime.  My fav lines go like this:

Feels so good being bad
There's no way I'm turning back
Now the pain is my pleasure cause nothing could measure
Love is great, love is fine
Out the box, outta line
The affliction of the feeling leaves me wanting more

Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But chains and whips excite me

Stills From Rihanna's S&M Video

Sounds fun, right?  Now before you shun the whole idea and proclaim that you will never get down in this matter, ask your partner if they've ever had a fantasy of tying you up, spanking you, or would they get some sort of pleasure if you did this to them?  If you're a chick and you asked your macho guy, I'm assuming he said no.  If you really have your heart set on it don't give up just yet because there might still be hope.

With all alternative fun ways of having sex (toys, role playing, etc.) there has to be some buy-in from your partner before you start whipping out the whips and chains and bells and whistles.  Be sure to slowly orient them to the idea and ease them into any toys or sexual games that you want to incorporate in the bedroom or out :-).  You might scare them away if you bring out your bag of goodies and don't prep them for it.  Tips for successfully ushering your lover into your S&M kick go as follows:

1. Make sure they are relaxed and are open to new things.
2. Try using toys that you can incorporate on you both.
3. Sometimes trying it out on yourself in front of them might make them less weary.
4. Express that this is your fantasy and you want him/her to be a part of it.
5. Make sure you know what you're doing.  You don't want to scar them for life by using a toy in the wrong way.

Okay my lovelies....I'm dying to know.  Are you into S&M?  Are you thinking about trying it with your mate? Have you done it before?  Have you tried it before and realized it wasn't for you?  Would you be open to experimentation?  Spill the beans...anonymously...of course (*wink*)

Here is Rihanna's S&M vid for good measure (which I absolutely love):

ENJOY!
